SUMMARY:CAMP HO NON WAH OYSTER REEF BUILD
DESCRIPTION:Join Lowcountry Land Trust as we team up with DNR’s South Carolina Oyster Restoration and Enhancement Program (SCORE)and Charleston Waterkeeper to build an oyster reef at Camp Ho Non Wah\, a Land Trust protected property on Wadmalaw Island. Volunteers will help restore and enhance oyster habitat by planting recycled oyster shells in the intertidal environment to form new\, self-sustaining oyster reefs. All reef building materials will be provided\, as well as gloves\, bug spray\, and sunscreen. Volunteers should wear closed toed shoes\, clothes they don’t mind getting dirty (because you will get muddy!)\, and bring a reusable water bottle. Volunteers will be in muddy conditions as they assist in transporting hundreds of oyster shell bags to build the reefs. \nThe purpose of the SCORE program is to restore and enhance oyster habitat by planting recycled oyster shells in the intertidal environment to form new\, self-sustaining oyster reefs — all with the help of volunteers. This community-based habitat restoration project is an important endeavor because oysters play a significant ecologic and economic role in South Carolina; however\, oyster populations are declining. It is important for the community to understand how oysters improve water quality\, control erosion\, and provide habitat for other commercially-important shellfish and fish species by learning about their biology and the human activities that can influence their well being.

SUMMARY:GARDENS CORNER - SHELDON CHURCH ROAD CLEANUP
DESCRIPTION:This Earth Day\, join members of the ACE Basin Task Force\, Beaufort County Open Land Trust\, Lowcountry Land Trust and Coastal Conservation League in support of Beaufort County’s Earth Day clean-up! \nGardens Corner – Sheldon Church Road Cleanup\nMonday\, April 22 from 9 to 11 a.m.\nMeet at 1236 Trask Highway in Seabrook \nWe will be picking up litter around the intersection of U.S. Highway 17 and U.S. Highway 21. There is no need to register in advance\, so just come dressed for the job. \nMake sure to wear: \n\nLight or brightly colored clothing that will make you more visible to passing traffic.\nLong pants and long-sleeved shirts.\nSturdy shoes that cover your feet to help avoid scratches\, fire ant bites and contact with poisonous plants.\n\nCleanup supplies and refreshments will be provided. \nOld Sheldon Church Road is a state scenic byway\, known across Beaufort for its tree-lined corridor and the famed Sheldon Church ruins.  Along with the Gardens Corner area\, this landscape represents Beaufort County’s entrance to the ACE Basin.  Known as one of the Nature Conservancy’s “Last great places on Earth” and home to over 250\,000 protected acres\, the ACE Basin includes wildlife management areas\, refuges\, upland habitat\, and incredible waterfront.  As conservationists\, we believe it is important to continue to protect rural landscapes and support the communities within them.  To do so\, we continue to promote policies for land protection\, support working lands\, and farms and encourage land stewardship.  One small way we can support the ACE Basin and Beaufort County is to clean up roadside litter. \nBring your friends and family members\, but remember that children must be at least 13 years old to participate. And\, all children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. \nCome get your hands dirty – don’t worry there will be gloves! See you there!
