What better way to promote clean water for Earth Week than to build an oyster reef? Each adult oyster that grows on the reef can filter up to 50 gallons of water a day. Imagine what hundreds or thousands of oysters can do!
Join us on Wednesday, April 24th from 1:00- 4:00 pm at Remley’s Point Boat Landing (112 2nd St, Mt Pleasant, SC 29464) to help add on to our existing 200-foot oyster reef along the Cooper River. We will be adding oyster bags and/or manufactured wire reefs (MWRs) along the shoreline to create new habitat for juvenile oysters to land on! This build will require volunteers to be comfortable on a short boat ride out and back from the site.
Volunteers should prepare for being outside for approximately 3 hours and in the sun and mud. Therefore, please bring mud boots/old sneakers to get dirty, a reusable water bottle, hat, sunscreen, and a change of clothes (or shoes at least) for the car ride home! Limited capacity based on boat size.
