SUMMARY:Lowcountry Earth Week: Landscape Lessons from the Angel Oak Preserve
DESCRIPTION:We invite you to join us to hear a lecture from Thomas Woltz\, principal and owner of the internationally recognized landscape architecture firm Nelson Byrd Woltz. He will discuss his team’s design process for the Angel Oak Preserve\, from the initial visit\, through ecological and cultural research\, to creative design vision and conceptual renderings. The Angel Oak is a powerful place with many lessons to learn about human history\, sea islands ecosystems\, and our relationship to the land. Thomas will help us understand how the Preserve’s design\, rooted in ecological and cultural narratives\, provides a model for resilient\, innovative\, community-oriented park design in Charleston and the Lowcountry.\n \nThe event will occur Monday\, April 17\, in the event hall at Redeemer Presbyterian Church\, located at 43 Wentworth Street. Parking is available in the lot directly across the street from the Church in addition to on-street parking. The seated program will begin promptly at 5:30 pm\, and a social with light refreshments will follow. Tickets are transferrable but non-refundable. \nLowcountry Earth Week is a collaborative initiative of over 40 local conservation organizations taking place from April 15-22\, 2023. The week-long celebration of the region’s natural beauty and resources features a variety of clean-ups\, festivals\, nature activities\, and workshops.  It will conclude with a family-friendly tabling event at Holy City Brewing on Earth Day (4/22). You can find a full list of events and activities by clicking here. \nVolunteers of Earth Week events are invited to join us for a complimentary pint voucher courtesy of Holy City Brewing on Earth Day\, April 22\, 2023\, from 12 to 4 pm. The celebration will take place on the brewery’s marsh-front lawn and feature a conservation fair of participating organizations. Earth Week event participants will check in near the brewery entrance to get their vouchers. Additionally\, brewery guests are welcome to browse the tabling event on the lawn and learn more about the conservation-minded organizations participating in Lowcountry Earth Week.
