Oyster Wire Reef Build with SCDNR

Join Lowcountry Land Trust and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) for a Manufactured Wire Reef (MWR) Fabrication.
Volunteers will work together to help build important habitat for our local oysters! During this MWR Fabrication event, volunteers will cut, bend, and secure wire to create Manufactured Wire Reefs —structures that will be placed along the shoreline to support habitat restoration. Date: Wednesday, January 14, 2026
Location: Fort Johnson
217 Fort Johnson Rd, Charleston, SC 29412
Time: 9:00 am to 12:00 pm
These reefs play an important role in coastal health by providing a stable surface for young oysters, called spat, to attach and grow. Over time, they help strengthen our shorelines, improve water quality, and support diverse marine life.
No experience needed—just a willingness to get involved and help our coast thrive! All supplies will be provided, and we recommend dressing in warm layers. Restrooms will be available on site.
