Post and Courier Articles Mirror What We Heard in Our Conservation Vision Process

The key to maintaining a high quality of life in the Lowcountry depends on striking a balance between accommodating the needs of the people and protecting the land. In today’s Post and Courier, there are three articles that talk about the possibility of completing a ring of “green” conserved land around urban Charleston. This idea of a greenbelt began decades ago and has been extremely successful. Charleston County’s Greenbelt program was started with the goal to circle the area with a band of undeveloped land to protect the area’s wildife, beauty and rural landscapes. Throughout our vision process participants showed overwhelming support for the greenbelt concept and emphasized how critical it is for our community to complete the green “ring”.  We hope you take time to read these interesting articles.
